What is official is cancellation of four projects. Ubisoft cancels free-to-play battle royale shooter Ghost Recon Frontline for over a hundred players, Splinter Cell VR and two other as yet unannounced games.
CEO Yves Guillemot attributed the decision to the efforts allowing developers to focus on higher priority projects. As you know, Splinter Cell VR was responsible for Massive, where Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is being created, as well as action-adventure from the world of Star Wars. Ghost Recon Frontline, which caused a wave of criticism after its announcement, was conducted in the Ubisoft Bucharest studio.
Splinter Cell VR was announced in 2020 alongside Assassin’s Creed VR and was to be developed with the support of studios in Düsseldorf, Mumbai and the UK (Ubisoft Reflections). Its cancellation probably won’t break the hearts of Sam Fisher fans.
