There are many oddities spread throughout the world of Genshin Impact, be it people, places, or objects. Katherine is one of the aforementioned oddities. If you’ve ever spent time playing with her in any of the Adventurers Guild locations, chances are you’ve seen or heard some weird clues that support the fan theory that Katherine is a robot.
Taking this theory one step further after revealing the Heralds of Fatui, we have another claim that Katherine can be controlled by Sandrona, a Harbinger puppet using mechanical puppets.
However, some time ago clues were discovered that support the idea that Katherine is a robot. If he waits long enough while he’s standing next to her, he’ll say robotic voice lines like “error” or “reboot”. Another piece of evidence is a keyhole found on the back of her neck.
The keyhole is normally invisible to players, but if you attack it in Liyue Adventurer’s Guild, it will spin around to be seen. The image below shows where to find it, so try it out in your game to get a better idea.
An updated theory posted by dream996 on Reddit even details the visual design similarities between Sandron and Katherine. On top of that, in the recently leaked lines from Childe 2.8, we hear her wonder out loud “Do those machines have anything to do with her?” when she talks about Sandrone.
Many machines have been found on Teyvat that Child could be referring to, but attributing Katherine’s keyhole and inhuman dialogue to Sandron’s research supports the fan theory quite a bit. Harbinger Fatui could use this so-called logger to spy on the Wanderer in all the major regions, who knows?
