2022 has given us a lot of satisfaction so far, and the second half of the year promises to be even richer for video game fans. Does this mean that the first six months of the year are completely flop-free? Obviously not.

In this article, we will talk about 5 titles that disappointed us more than the ones we didn’t think of or that went bad enough to be almost funny. Although this definition only applies to one of the games on the list. Let’s start!

Fall of Babylon

The Fall of the Tower of Babel is a really good metaphor to represent one of the worst games ever made by the action masters that are the Platinum Games. After giving life to historical epics like Devil May Cry in the Capcom days and then Bayonetta, Hideki Kamiya found himself in a project that was nothing but bankruptcy. At least even more than Scalebound, which we can keep dreaming of. And I have to say that the first trailers for Babylon’s Fall promised sparks and action mechanics befitting their creators’ name. Instead, something went wrong and as development progressed, it was decided to move to a live service management, which seemed to have even simplified some of the mechanics. Fortunately, there are only a few victims of the disaster, careless buyers who invested the three A prices, all the others were saved just in time.

Vampire: The Masquerade – The Swan Song

Vampire: The Masquerade – The Swan Song

Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is another one of those games that made a great first impression with us but then failed to deliver on its promises. Big Bad Wolf’s work fails to make the most of its dark world’s immense potential, due to some inadequate design and narrative choices. Fidelity to the material is higher than expected, but rough with the formula changes, characterization of characters, and definite plot developments that leave much to be desired. In short, a great missed opportunity.

Speaking of missed opportunities and disappointments by Raphael Colantonio, Weird West left us with a lot of pain. The work of the man who contributed to the birth of Dishonored is clearly a concentration of ambition that offers countless systems and possibilities to anyone who wants to stand out from the crowd and decides to explore his world. Unfortunately, the resources at Wolfeye’s disposal could not support his ideas, giving shape to such a captivating and at times hilarious title, but also severely flawed in many ways, above all in combat. Who knows, upping their plans a bit, this seasoned team won’t be able to unleash a true indie gem in the future.

CrossfireX was the protagonist of a debut that was nothing short of problematic, disappointing the vast majority of users with more or less serious problems and receiving very low ratings from the international press. Which is frankly unexpected, considering the franchise enjoyed huge popularity on PC and the single-player industry was developed by none other than Remedy. Organized in chapters, this final aspect was very short, overall the experience seemed generic and was full of issues that made it difficult to play. A situation that even prompted the executive producer to write an apology letter to fans.

We end with an absurd work. It is so absurd that it prides itself on its mediocrity. Let’s talk about Postal 4: No Regerts, one of the few games where the developers don’t mind the negative reviews. Indeed, they seem so happy with the election that they are laughing out loud on social media. On the other hand, Postal 4, which ironically took 4 showers, did not disappoint the expectations: Those looking for unwarranted violence, vulgarity and tasteless satire found bread in their teeth. Unfortunately, the technical issues are too obvious to be overshadowed: poor optimization, inappropriate graphics, and graphics bordering on numerous bugs make it still appear as an embryonic title despite three years of development. Or maybe that’s exactly what programmers intended?

What do you think about this topic? And what other games did you disappoint at this start of the year?
