Callisto Protocol will feature dodge mechanics similar to “old fighting games”, and players using the controller will be able to dodge enemy attacks to the left, right, and back using the left analog stick as the game attempts to dodge. make the fight feel like a “fight.” ”.

In an interview with Game Informer, Ben Walker, design director at Striking Distance, developer of Callisto Protocol, explains how the sci-fi shooter is “leaning” towards survival horror, with little ammo for its weapons and encounters. with difficult enemies that make the game feel threatening.

“We’re definitely betting on survival,” says Walker. “Our general tone in the fight is that it’s kind of a fight. Half of our fights are close – you have to be smart about using your bullets.

“And that brings us to our defensive left stick. You have the ability to dodge left and right and block while pulling back on the stick. When the guys come and attack you, you dodge to one side… but if you want to dodge again, you have to go the other way. Then create rhythm. We always went with the left stick. It was an idea we had from the beginning and it came from old fighting games. It just feels natural. In horror games, people get a little distracted, like in fighting games.”

From Walker’s description, The Callisto Protocol looks exactly like the survival horror experience we’ve been waiting for: slow, methodical, and intense, the scariest games are the ones where any misstep could be your last, and the emphasis on escapism looks exactly like this. it will certainly withstand this pressure.

Like any decent horror developer, Striking Distance goes to great lengths to create vibrant, brutal gore. We can’t wait to see it all in action when The Callisto Protocol launches in December.
