A talented Elden Ring player found a way to use the harp as a PC controller, and even managed to kill Margit by playing musical notes. Tuning assigns button presses to specific strings on an orchestral instrument, allowing the musician to perform popular RPGs.
In a short video, Reddit user Lettuce4Dayz aka Anna Ellsworth demonstrates an Elden Ring harp controller playing notes to attack, dodge, and roll. In a longer YouTube video, the musician details how the instrument’s controller works, including how it connects to a gaming PC.
Ellsworth explains that the notes of the harp are picked up by a microphone and transmitted to an audio interface. The sound is then passed to a MIDI translator, which ultimately turns the instrument into a truly sophisticated gaming alternative to a keyboard and mouse. Fortunately, a musician doesn’t need to play riffs to navigate The Land’s Between, since playing a single note turns movement on and off. However, if you’re the type of player who likes to spam magic, you may need to play a loud solo on this harp controller to do so.
Defeating Margit with a controller is quite difficult, so the fact that Ellsworth stomped on the Elden Ring boss with musical notes is noteworthy. Using the tools to defeat the “big bad” is similar to what you would do in a classic DnD adventure, which could mean this musician is technically a bard.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen someone play Elden Ring with a weird computer controller. Last month, a modder was playing around with a converted Fisher-Price controller, and a handful of bananas helped another player defeat Godric the Graft.
