The Xbox Bethesda showcase will certainly bring some Starfield news, but many fans (including us) are hoping to finally get a look at Wolfenstein 3. Even if that happens, it’s probably still a long way off, but what could make the wait easier is a Return to the Castle. Wolfenstein mod with ray tracing.
Machine Games’ new Wolfenstein games are fantastic, but there’s something really special about 2001’s Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Enemy Territory, but it still feels a bit late at this point despite a review released a few years ago.
Well, if Doom can get ray traced, then the best Wolfenstein game can, and that’s not coming from a hardcore fan, either. Dihara Wijetunga is a senior graphics R&D engineer at AMD, and they make the Wolf PT mod; no, not this PT, it’s a “real time route maker” mod with a “special DX12 backend”.
Apparently “it’s still in the early stages of development,” but Wijetunga provided some comparison photos to illustrate the stark difference. The difference between light and dark becomes even more obvious: electrical discharges illuminate the entire room, and unlit torches create an even darker environment. Check it out below.

Obviously, the mod isn’t out yet, but it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.
As for Wolfenstein 3, we haven’t had a new Wolfenstein game since Youngblood in 2019, so we should have announced it long ago. It may have some form of multiplayer and “absolutely”, but the big question is whether an Indiana Jones game will come before Wolfenstein 3.
