PlayStation Rewards are optional for classic game developers

With the announcement of a variety of classic PlayStation titles included in Sony’s new PS Plus offering, fans are eagerly awaiting the full list of titles. Sony has announced that over 300 titles spanning PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 titles will arrive in this classic series by the end of the year. Some PS1 games that have joined the action, such as Siphon Filter, Wild Arms and Hot Shots Golf, have also appeared with trophy support. Boring trophy hunters, Sony says PlayStation rewards for classic games are optional for developers.

It’s true in a Sony blog post, developers don’t need to add bounty support to older games. 13 classic PS1 games have been announced so far – and only five support trophies – these are Ape Escape, Wild Arms, Hot Shots Golf, IQ Intelligent Qube and Siphon Filter.

Of course, that could change at a later date, and games without trophy support could push them further, but without any commitment, we’ll likely see a general lack of support.

Sad news for trophy hunters, especially those who’ve topped games in hopes of unlocking that coveted platinum trophy, but it’ll still be fun to get rid of all those old PlayStation Classics.

Lots of games are coming to PS Plus soon, check out the PS Plus Extra and Premium games list to see which games you’ll love playing again.
