Drone that spots Twitch streamers sees UK’s highest viewership Storm Eunice

If there’s one thing the UK doesn’t handle very well, it’s extreme weather. Thanks to Storm Eunice, Britons across the country are looking anxiously out of their windows, hoping their beloved fence panels, roll cages and trampolines will survive the 80mph gusts. But amidst all these concerns, there’s something else: aircraft detection on Twitch.

Over the past few hours, streamers on Twitch have become aircraft enthusiasts watching live streams of planes attempting to land in these turbulent conditions. The Big Jet TV show from Heathrow Airport on YouTube has become a favorite of Guild broadcaster Harriet “Harrie” Silver, Nick “Nmp” Polom, “Two Angry Gamers”, “Leopard” and the ex-runner Max Fewtrell. Broadcast to tens of thousands of viewers.

Considering that Twitch has thrived on reaction meta content where streamers watch on-demand video content, it’s perfect for that. If you have a guy whose planes basically shout back and forth on approach and congratulate pilots when they land, it’s no surprise that this turns out to be a recipe for success.

For ‘Airlinerslive’, which streams the view of Manchester Airport across multiple platforms, the current interest in plane detection has helped them reach more people on Twitch. When asked about its viewers on Twitch, Airlinerslive Twitch described its 520 viewers as “a bit of a stretch”, but “not exactly ‘xQc'”.

We’re pretty sure xQc will continue for quite some time, so who knows what will happen next. One thing is for sure, given the excitement of looking at planes and the love for commentary content right now, everyone wants a slice of old-school Ryanair landing.
