Saints Row average at time of writing 59 on Metacritic and 65 on Opencritic, a sign that a reboot is causing us to pick our noses from various angles. In particular, the technical direction and gameplay mechanics are often considered outdated, as well as the presence of numerous bugs that undermine the experience.
For example, VGC goes down hard and assigns a 2/5: “It’s a below-average game buggy, and the best we can say about it is we had our Tobias Fünke-inspired character squatting and masturbating while walking down the street, making us laugh. Probably not worth the entry price.”
That said, there’s no shortage of positive reviews like GameInformer’s, which assigned Saints Row an 85. “It might not push the limits of the new hardware and it might be a little rough, but the newest Saints Row it should be offers a great comic book experience with a lot of depth. While it was a little irritating, I was never bored and wanted to see where my team’s silly quirks would take me. The payoffs are usually worth the time investment and just going off the beaten path works. I’m glad the saints are back, hopefully for a long time to come.”
In the Multiplayer.it review instead “Saints Row returns with an unpretentious but definitely fun reboot. Claims are few, and the results reflect this aspect. Anachronistic in design and light in writing, the Volition title doesn’t stand out from any angle, but for gamers who still love to play a GTA twenty years ago, it could satisfy their hunger for free roaming.”
We remind you that Saints Row will be available tomorrow, from Tuesday. August 23PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | For S, Xbox One and Google Stadia.
