Cyberpunk 2077 has already come to the end of its journey, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to get into this universe again. There is a board game called Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City, in which hostile gangs await you. The following lines will tell you how the set plays out.

  • Number of players: 1–4 (with extension 1–5)
  • Game time: 120 minutes
  • Price: 2669 CZK (Alsa)
  • Age: 14+

Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs Night City Lets You Fight in the Streets

Night City is a brutal city full of people fighting to survive. The board game Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City will give you the opportunity to fight one of the gangs that compete with each other for dominance over individual parts of the metropolis. While you won’t find very creative factions in other tabletop strategy games, in this case you get your hands on uniquely designed gangs that differ in their visuals and a couple of abilities they come into battle with. The positions from which the games begin are also unique, since they all have some history with a given world.

The main idea of the gameplay is that you try to gain the upper hand in given quarters, because this is the only way you can take full advantage of their potential. When you have complete control of a location, all the profits flow to you, and there is nothing stopping you from occupying important positions from which your special forces are located. More precisely, you organize raids with soloists, tough guys who are not averse to shedding blood. But there are technicians from whom you buy ability cards that can give you victory points and much more.

Technicians also act as intermediaries in the recruitment of Edgers, who are mercenaries representing the three main professions and sometimes one outside the normal rules. In addition to technicians, there are also network operation specialists who, for example, in the Voodoo Boys faction, can strengthen their friends who are in the same area as themselves during a firefight. Then they actively chew through the networks with the help of cubes and more than once on their way they manage to obtain various powerful benefits and even kill people equipped with implants (anyone).Cyberpunk 2077: Review of the board game Gangs of Night City Cyberpunk 2077 Gangs of Night City 4

But at least you’ll be killing people from a distance. First of all, blood will flow on the streets, where clashes take place, in which players may or may not participate. But who wouldn’t want to control a money-making street, huh? When it comes to combat, the main battle cards are played, from which you choose one and then look at the score. You don’t replenish your deck as you play, you discard old ones as you upgrade them, creating a new limited set to battle with, which is great about this part. The winner of the battle gets the location, and those with lower values are “out of luck.”

Therefore, it is possible that you will lose units during the battle. Luckily for you, units constantly spawn in the areas where you have your hideouts. The game itself ends here when you manage to gain 25 reputation points in Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs Night City or begin the epilogue of this story. The range of storylines is varied, and what’s worse is that their progression may not always be the same as it develops as the game progresses. I really like the fact that there is no solo option.Cyberpunk 2077: Review of the board game Gangs of Night City Cyberpunk 2077 Gangs of Night City 2

Cyberpunk 2077: Night City Gangs – Families and Outlaws brings the Wasteland and room for another gangster

Along with the spectacular strategy game Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City, the Family and Outlaws expansion also hit the market, which could not be ignored, so I took a closer look at it too. The main new thing this expansion brings is the Wasteland. Thanks to this, the city is enriched with a new part, which you can go to and, most importantly, place a couple of recently added gaming factions on it.Review of the board game Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of the Night City Cyberpunk 2077 Gangs of the Night City: Families and Criminals

Yes, you read that right. The game world of Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City has been replenished with two groups strongly associated with the desert. On the one hand, these are the Shadows, and on the other, the Aldecald family has been added. Both factions have mechanics tied to their homeland. Moreover, they are in no way built on pure expansion into the metropolis, so you will encounter them, but in a different way than those that represent the “original” inhabitants of the city.

Considering how the newly added factions are structured, I’d say the expansion it comes with is definitely worth checking out. In addition, the number of playing places is expanding, so that if you wish, you can invite another potential opponent to the game.Review of the board game Cyberpunk 2077: Night City Gangs Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Gangs Families and Outlaws 2

The clash of powerful organizations is worth it in Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City

Board games based on video games aren’t always what you want. However, in the case of Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs Night City, I would say that the creators of this work managed to do an excellent job, for which they deserve a standing ovation. Thanks to their efforts, we have a very successful strategy, which takes place in Night City, in which gangs of different directions collide. Compared to other competing designs, it’s surprisingly affordable.

Thanks to the aforementioned accessibility, I wouldn’t be afraid to recommend Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City even to non-strategy players, because it will give them the opportunity to go to Night City and fully experience what it’s like when gangs clash. And while you’re at it, you’d better jump straight into the Family and Outlaws expansion, which adds new factions and a place for another player.

We would like to thank Czech distributor Blackfire for providing us with copies of Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City and Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City – Families and Outlaws.
