It’s fast. It’s cruel. If you make a mistake, you will most likely fly over the handlebars. But in Descenders, a motorcycle roguelike released on Steam in 2019, you hit the nail on the head and it becomes a relaxing zen trip to a relaxation center. A popular hit with millions of gamers, PCGamesN now has an exclusive on the Descenders sequel. No More Robots was pitched to the publisher as “Spelunky on Bicycles,” just know that the sequel to Descenders won’t be called Descenders 2. Mike Rose, founder of No More Robots, gives us an overview.
“We work with [Descenders dev] RageSquid is new,” reveals Rose in an exclusive live interview at WASD 2023. “Descenders was very important to all of us. To RageSquid, they don’t know what to do with themselves. It’s just three guys and it’s been played by 20 million people or something.
“So we’ve been thinking about doing more in the Descenders universe for a long time, and they’ve been working on something for a while, and I think we’ll announce it this year.”
Rose, however, is quite the enigma when it comes to the nature of the Descenders sequel; As far as we know, it won’t be called Descenders 2.
“I’ll tell you what I can say,” Rose continues. “Number two has nothing to do with it. But it’s not a remake. Imagine Descenders, but someone said, “What if we take this and go too far?” And it happened. We are currently discussing with A, B and C to see if they want to announce it. Something like Descenders is coming soon. I’m very excited about that.”
Although Rose can’t pinpoint exactly what or who “A”, “B” and “C” stand for when I think of video game ads… big Video Game Announcements: Three names come to mind: Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Perhaps in addition to PC, new Descenders could appear on consoles.
However, the partnership between RaqeSquid and No More Robots is strong. “Descenders has always been special to us because I signed the game before I founded No More Robots,” explains Rose. “RaqeSquid had a lot of faith in me. They came to me with this demo and said, “It’s like Spelunky on a bike.” And then they left with me, based on nothing.
