According to Naughty Dog’s notes for The Last of Us Patch v1.0.1.6, this patch fixes crash on first load and increases the amount of memory for streaming animations. Also, the update reduces the size of the PSO cache, which should prevent your graphics card from experiencing as many memory issues.

The patch should also help with the stability of The Last of Us Steam Deck, but portable performance is still not perfect. If you haven’t played the game yet and don’t have a GPU like the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti, you’d better wait for more updates.

Of course, the game can still crash even after the latest patch, as the team says they are still investigating performance and stability issues. This Last of Us shading issue still plagues novice players, so you’ll want to go for a walk or something and let the game do its thing before playing for the first time.
