Riot Valorant’s lead agent, John “SAMEMEME” Gosicki, was absolutely right when he called Gekko an “eclectic” operator with cold “friends.” Agent 22 plays like butter, knows how to joke at the right time, becomes a super assistant and a ruthless hero when he wants to be. Finally, after weeks of waiting, the new FPS game agent is here and it looks promising.
I strongly believe that it will follow in Chamber’s footsteps, but it will become a development plague. The brave Agent 22 kills with his own hands, has his own equipment and does not spare mercenaries. Valorant’s latest launcher is broken and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets an instant nerf upon launch; You heard it for the first time here.
Valorant Agent 22 is a quirky style launcher and team of adorable stuffed animals. According to the developers, he looks like K/O, but Gekko seems to be Viper-Killjoy’s favorite child. Decide for yourself!
He has Moshpit, Wingman, Dizzy, and a powerful ultimate called Thrash. His kit is pretty balanced with the exception of Moshpit and Wingman aka “Lil bro”.
Gekko plays well. Nothing too powerful until he launched his Moshpit in a full setup. I tested the Agent in an exclusive playtest, immersing myself in a fast-paced game where everyone was screaming into the microphone. So when Sage threw his slow orb at me, I didn’t pay much attention to the approaching green dot. The next thing I remember, my teammate and I were dead, zero shots.
Gekko’s Moshpit does what no one else can. It’s like Kedavra Valorant’s own Avada; you will die instantly in a puddle of mud. Enemies within range take 100 damage and must quickly get out of the puddle or they will be burned. Combined with Sage’s Slow Orb or Astra’s Gravity Well, the Moshpit becomes even deadlier, capable of taking down entire enemy teams.
And that’s even before talking about the star of the series: Wingman, affectionately nicknamed Lil Bro. Wingman will be the reason Gekko will likely get an instant nerf. In addition to unintentional cuteness that will talk enemies out of killing him, Wingman is capable of total carnage. Whether it’s to stun enemies, gather information, or plant the Spike, there’s nothing Lil Bro can’t do.
Wingman’s interaction with the tip is not limited to planting and disarming. Here are some scenarios where Wingman is unfairly strong:
- Gekko gets a free teammate to distract and land in one-on-one situations.
- If Wingman is downed, Gekko will still have the advantage of gaining new information.
- While the Wingman is disabled, Gekko can pick up weapons dropped all over the map, giving him an economic boost.
- Associated with Harbor’s Cove, Wingman becomes invincible as the ultimate Spike Carrier.
- With Wingman, Defenders will have five attackers that will have to fight to prevent Spike from activating.
These are just a few situations that I have observed during my short time playing the game. Only time will tell the extent of Wingman’s potential danger.
Finally, let’s not forget that Gekko can use his Dizzy (flash) about six or seven times in a turn. It’s also something no other Valorant character can do. The reusability potential of the entire toolset from him is incredible, which is concerning as well.
Gekko strays away from the typical starter model. Much like Sage, Gekko’s toolset is indispensable, so he could be Valorant’s next top agent, especially at lower ranks. While higher ranked players tend to focus on Spike-related strategies, Wingman can still spend time on certain maps like Haven and Pearl.
At first glance, it looks like Riot will be getting their hands on Chamber 2.0, an operator that just can’t be balanced. But don’t worry, this is good news for the Sage network, which is tired of leading the charge.
