The official Steam Deck compatibility list now includes over 8,000 games.

Not all games will work on the Steam Deck, but Valve says that 8,000 games are now officially rated as compatible. Since July 2021, the number of games sponsored by the handheld giant has doubled, with this milestone almost coinciding with the anniversary of the handheld’s launch.

Valve’s Steam Deck Verified system is far from perfect, being more useful information than a final verdict. Sure, the shiny “Like” and “Verified” badges mean you shouldn’t find any groundbreaking scams, but they’re no guarantee of performance. This is especially true when you’re pairing a portable with the best Steam Deck and a high-resolution monitor, a combination that can reduce your handheld’s ability to boost frame rates in demanding games.

However, the official Great on Deck list lists 8,003 releases so far, a commendable achievement. For context, that’s almost double the number of games available on the Nintendo Switch right now, so it’s safe to say that the mighty machine has a rich library. Recent releases include Cyberpunk 2077, a game that makes even the best PC game releases sweat, and a new Dead Space Remake, which means the list includes more than just indie favorites.

Again, Steam’s verified decklist is not legal, and many adventures without a showcase icon will work just fine. We’ve even come across some “unsupported” quirks that work just fine on handheld devices, with Square Enix’s Sleeping Dogs serving as an example tutorial. Of course, any game with a cursed mark can hide devastating bugs and quirks, so it pays to use the system in conjunction with your own instincts.

The verified listing will no doubt hit the 10,000 mark soon, and we’ll be sure to let you know when that happens. Until then, we’ll be testing all the latest PC games in their portable modes, so you can invest in the best Steam Deck SD card to take them with you on your travels.

Wondering if Sons of the Forest is Steam Deck compatible? We have tried the survival horror game on portable devices before, but for now, you can stay at home.
