Historic real-time strategy Age of Empire 4 takes its magic in its fourth season. starts on february 16. The new season introduces a unique new biome called the Enchanted Grove, which holds a mystical secret within its eerily illuminated forests. There are also three new maps, a new ranked season, a new game mode called Nomad, and some welcome improvements to the browser.
The new Enchanted Grove biome features colorful, glowing trees and plants in a purple twilight. It will be available throughout the Enchanted Grove Season 4 event, which runs February 16 – March 29. In the Enchanted Grove maps, you will be able to send units to hunt down the White Enchanted Stag, which will unlock a new Golden Stag Monument if you manage to take it down.
the new ranked season begins on February 17and includes new rewards for individual players and teams advancing through the ranks from Bronze to Winner. In 1v1 ranked games, the map pool will include Dry Arabia, Prairie, Lipany, Ancient Spiers, Wetlands, Oasis, Altai, Boulder Cove, and Waterholes.
The team’s ranked map list for Season 4 includes Dry Arabia, Lipany, Vault, High View, Mountain Clearing, Hill and Valley, Mongolian Heights, Baltic, and Nagari.
Three new maps will be available to play unranked. The four lakes have islands at each corner and a cruciform landmass separates them. The Mainland is a large area surrounded by water, with islands at each corner of the map. The Swamp is an open map covered in jungle, with resources to find and plenty of opportunities to hide and ambush your opponents.
Season 4 also introduces a new game mode from Age of Empires 4 called Nomad. This is where you start (either in custom games or gunfights) with three scattered villagers and need to gather them together to build a town center in a good location; you can spend time searching for resources or rush and build right away. but you’ll never know exactly where your enemy is building his city, so you’ll need quick reflexes (and a bit of luck) to get past.
The Age of Empires team has also made major updates to the Mod Browser this season. The browser now has dynamic search that starts displaying results as soon as you start typing and should give you more relevant search results across the board. You can filter the results by popularity and enable the filter to show only official mods.
