The Apex Legends Celestial Sunrise event adds a number of fancy new seasonal skins for players to collect in celebration of the Lunar New Year, as well as introducing “Ultimate Challenges” for Apex Legends Hardcore Royale. However, fans of one of the best battle royale games were extremely unhappy with the event’s most elusive reward.
As a special bonus for players who unlock all of the limited-time cosmetic items in this collectible event, Respawn is offering an additional reward, usually in the form of Mythic-tier Prestige skins and Apex Legends Heirlooms. For example, the recent Spellbound Collector Event awarded the Seer Legacy, Showstoppers, and the previous Wintertide Collector Event awarded the Wraith Voidshifter Prestige skin.
However, the Skyrise prize is a Legendary Peacemaker skin called Jade Retribution. It’s undeniably cool: framed in crimson red with gold trim and sparkling jade crystals protruding from the barrel and stock. It is also reactive, which means it will react when you kill. However, it bears a striking resemblance to the previous two skins, Frostbite and Blood Stone, which were included in the Season 3 Battle Pass.
Players on Apex Legends Reddit are debating how they feel about the skin, and there’s certainly a strong consensus that as nice as the skin is, it feels like an underwhelming reward for “finishing” an event. This is especially true since some players are likely to spend as much as $170 (or around £136) to unlock a full set of cosmetics without using crafting materials.
Of course, it’s important to note that this skin is just the icing on the cake: by spending money or crafting materials, you also get twelve Legendary items and twelve Epic items, as well as the Jadeite Retribution skin. You’d also spend about the same amount if you bought the Season 3 Battle Pass and paid to upgrade it to the level cap for older skins, though you could also upgrade simply by playing the game after your initial investment.
Ultimately, only you as the player can decide which Apex Legends skins and other cosmetic items are worth your time or money, but deals like these seem to be turning some players away from their spending habits. I know we all spend money [on Apex cosmetics]said one commenter, “but we should all start spending a little less, in my opinion.”
