Some of AMD’s new Lies of P gameplay showcases soul games in 8K resolution, with a terrifyingly intense boss fight that concludes the Pinocchio-inspired ARPG. So imagine, if you will, a boss fight that turns Bloodborne’s Darkbeast Paarl into some sort of giant ape-like mechanical police robot puppet.
Sadly, this Lies of P game is only a few minutes long, but it’s action-packed, intense, and a great way to kick off 2023, considering we’re now in the RPG’s release year as well.
Soulslike certainly packs the punch you’d expect from a game in this genre, because even without playing the game, every hit seems to carry a lot of weight, which is attributed to the great sound design of the new music video.
Let’s start with a rather interesting game on the streets of the city, very reminiscent of the center of Yharnam in Bloodborne, with the dimly lit cobblestones reflecting the moonlight. Then we get to what I consider to be the star of the show, the boss fight.
I don’t really know how to describe it, so I’ll break it down into each nonsense part. It appears to be some sort of giant British-looking police robot with a guard helmet and ornate moustache. The boss also moves like a monkey, which is very reminiscent of Guardian Monkey from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. So maybe don’t turn off the controller if this boss goes berserk after you beat him, just to be safe.
That said, comparing Lies of P to Bloodborne or Sekiro may be doing you a disservice, because while the game obviously borrows from the foundation laid by FromSoftware, the aesthetics and ideas definitely seem to do something very clean.
The new Lies of P gameplay footage also comes from AMD who shared it in 8K resolution to showcase the best graphics card in their lineup, the new Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU released late last year and it looks like the graphics card does what that corresponds to it to come.
According to the Lies of P Steam page, we can still expect a 2023 release date, and since the game is getting a lot of attention, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it from one of the major publishers. events or Summer Game Fest later this year.
