League of Legends Emotes are one of the most rewarding and fun ways to interact with other players in a MOBA game and add some flair to your gameplay. “Expanding the emote wheel is conceptually a no-brainer,” Chekman says, “but at worst, going from the current five to an estimated nine increases the number of unique emotes the game needs to load by forty.” That number could increase further, he continues, if additional event triggers are added to the current “Start”, “First Blood”, “Ace” and “Win” automatic triggers.
This obviously means that the game will need more memory. Checkman explains, “We handle memory very carefully in League of Legends while working on a wide variety of machines around the world.” However, he adds that a recent internal audit of emoji “found ways to reduce their size without compromising quality,” which could lead to such considerations.
“In the meantime, we’re also looking into better ways to manage your emoji, which we need to create multiple emoji pages, and a few other improvements we like to the system,” Checkman says. He concludes by saying: “We are not going to do everything at once, but we also know that there are many more emotions than there are ways to use them. The designer working on it is amazing and I’m sure the emotions will get even stronger with time.”
