The new Elden Ring mod changes the way weapons, armor and items work in FromSoftware’s epic open-world game, turning it into something more akin to Diablo loot. As the mammoth adventure from the creators of Dark Souls and Bloodborne approaches its one-year anniversary, many of you will no doubt consider visiting Underworld again sometime in 2023. So far, the mods are a great way to shake things up and It is one of the newest we have seen so far.
The Elden Ring Diablo style loot mod was developed by the pretty name CornflakeRush who decided to completely change the way gear upgrades work in Elden Ring. Elden Ring DSL, as they call it, adds a lot of “random” loot to the game that can either drop from enemies or be discovered in the world. Instead of the traditional system of using special materials to upgrade the best Elden Ring weapons, you will actively try to find the best equipment in the wild.
CornflakeRush explains the idea of the mod: “Instead of finding a weapon and upgrading it to the max, we encourage you to go out and kill your enemies in the hopes that they will drop one of the many, many, many possible weapon and armor parts that have to offer to improve your construction!”
Similar to Diablo, weapons in Elden Ring DSL have a rarity value, with eight different levels, from “common” to “godslayer” – the higher the rarity, the more damage it will deal, with a higher chance of several damage types. . The specific damage value of dropped weapons is also slightly random within a given rarity range, and you’ll also receive certain modifiers that can increase your character’s stats or apply certain effects.
These mods will be familiar to RPG fans because the weapon’s name has a prefix and suffix to indicate what it does. For example, the “Pot” weapon will increase the damage of thrown items such as Fire Pots and Lightning Pots, the “Vampire” weapon will restore a percentage of your health when you kill an enemy, and the “Spike” will that deals damage when rolling over enemies.
Along with the stats and perks, the gear will also come with a random selection of Ashes of War, further strengthening the urge to go there and find the perfect cast. If you’ve already discovered much of what the Elden Ring has to offer, this new approach should completely change the atmosphere of exploration again. It’s a nice way to bring a little more suspense and surprise to what might become a more well-known quantity after all these months.
CornflakeRush notes that the mod is still in very early beta, though they encourage anyone who thinks it’s worth a try, as they’re looking for “feedback and reviews on drop rate balancing, bug detection, and what not.” More importantly, if the mod is really fun!” This certainly sounds like a fun idea to us, and could be a great addition to similar Elden Ring enemy randomizers and other better Elden Ring mods.
An Elden Ring Diablo style loot mod is available on Nexus Mods.
