I want to try best sword games in the computer ? Hacking your way through hordes of enemies with a massive sword in hand is one of the great joys of video games. Swordsmanship can aim for realism, both in combat and on stage, or be ridiculous power fantasies – there are no hard and fast rules here, which makes it all quite exciting.

So, since it’s an extremely broad genre, you might find it hard to find the best of the bunch. That’s why we’ve put together a handy list that covers all types of sword games, from 2D co-op and hack ‘n’ slash action games to VR rhythm games and massive sandbox RPGs. We’ve also tried to get a good mix of single and multiplayer games in case you like one or the other.

Here are the best sword games on PC:

for honor

For Honor bypasses any attempts at historical accuracy for the Deadliest Warrior approach, allowing you to pit samurai, Vikings, knights, and Wu Lin warriors against each other to see what might happen.

The results are often incredibly funny, and while the premise might seem silly to Mordhau or Chivalry players, there’s plenty of depth to its combat system and multiple heroes. Succumb to its charm and you will probably appreciate it.

Ghost Runner wielding a sword

ghost runner

Ghostrunner’s brutal combat is fast and furious fun, with your instant punches resulting in comical OTT eruptions of blood. All this will help to create the ultimate cyberpunk ninja experience as you skillfully run, slide and dance between the balls with ease.

And while the melee combat is intentionally simple, making parkour impossible and delivering the killing blow is still very satisfying. In our full Ghostrunner review, it’s called “Titanfall meets Hotline Miami,” if that gives you any idea how tense it can be.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Raiden wielding a sword

Metal Gear Rising: Vengeance

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a stark departure from its stealthy predecessors. It is a blazing fast action game developed by Platinum with some of the best hack and slash action games. As the bloated cyborg Raiden, you’ll journey through a ludicrous story and many deadly boss fights as you gradually master the art of wielding a sword.

It sits somewhere between Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, though Raiden’s ability to slow down time and analyze his enemies is a memorable (and rather unpleasant) addition. Also, you can cut nearby cars into small pieces, it’s a lot of fun.

cavalry 2

If you want a heavy and extremely brutal medieval sword game, Chivalry 2 will definitely suit your tastes. It’s also well-suited for large-scale multiplayer battles, and while bigger fights can be a bit unmanageable, the game takes off positively when the stars align and everything works as it should. Offering fights with up to 64 players, mercenaries can fight alongside a team as they attack the castle together.

Melee combat in Chivalry 2 takes some getting used to, but it comes with a greater sense of progression as you master your preferred fighting style. Chivalry 2 is currently an Epic Games Store exclusive, but has a Steam page for its imminent release in 2022. Check out our Chivalry 2 review to see what this game looks like against Mordhau.

Nidhogg 2 Cooperative Showdown

Nidhogg 2

Swordsmanship in Nidhogg 2 requires experimentation and quick thinking, especially since your player controlled enemy might start shooting arrows at you or throwing a dagger in your face. In his meaty, repulsive world, there’s no room for chivalry.

However, spamming attacks and frontal attacks can be a recipe for disaster, so a split-second delay is essential when reading or defending against an opponent. You should also consider that a single swing of the sword is enough to kill them, making non-telegraphed moves particularly effective. Despite the gritty style, there’s clearly plenty of depth to Nidhogg 2’s frenetic action.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice begins the boss fight

Sekiro: Shadows die twice

Sekiro hack ‘n’ slash’s blazingly fast swordfights can seem quite limited at first compared to FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series, but the increased emphasis on reading your opponents and acting accordingly makes the combat system more fluid and relentless.

Occasionally, he will fall into a rhythmic trance, masterfully moving from one movement to the next with the utmost flair. Clumsy demons and skilled samurai can’t compete with a clear mind and good timing.

And despite the level of complexity it offers, it should work as a welcome entry point into the larger world of FromSoftware with its smoother respawn mechanics. At least you won’t get lost if you listen to enemy conversations and keep an eye out for environmental clues.

A proud soldier from Warhammer Vermintide 2

Warhammer: Vermintide 2

Inspired by games like Left 4 Dead, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 will have you team up with your friends to fight your way through carefully designed levels filled with hideous wererats. Few cooperative games offer as much as this: there’s a downright silly amount to see, unlock, and destroy.

And you will always have a good time thanks to the bloody swordplay and the diverse arsenal, which of course is not limited to just swords. It’s a solid rat game (click if you dare) and post-launch support has always been good.

Beat the Saber VR level

little saber

Beat Saber doesn’t see you face-to-face with a rival swordsman, but his rhythmic punching style is no less intense. As a VR game, it’s fully immersive and addictive for much longer than expected, and the customizable levels help broaden its long-term appeal considerably.

It’s easy to get caught up in the moment or immerse yourself in a satisfying flow. Don’t think about how stupid you look while playing the game. And as simple as it is, it’s still one of the best rhythm games on PC.

Kingdom Come Deliverance Major Battle

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

You can easily spend hours playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Warhorse’s RPG, without even drawing your sword. However, this only adds to the intensity and importance of your battles with the deadliest of medieval Bohemia.

As such, being caught off guard by a gang of ragtag bandits is cause for celebration, as such encounters give you the chance to hone and showcase your swordsmanship. As with any system in Kingdom Come, the tactical combat system takes some getting used to, and will feel deliberately clunky at first, but stick with it and you’ll soon be taking down armored assassins in style.

Doom Eternal shoots a severe demon

eternal destiny

Now we know what you’re thinking. Doom Eternal might not be the most obvious choice for a list of the best sword games given that it’s an FPS and all. However, his Crucible energy sword works forever. From the moment you return the sword to its former glory, it will become clear that the Crucible is no ordinary weapon.

It acts as a kind of instant kill that can rip and tear the strongest demons to rough pieces. It’s honestly the perfect way to thin the enemy ranks when things get too hectic, and it’s just phenomenal to wield like a perfect lightsaber.

And that’s it for our list of the best sword games on PC! I hope we didn’t miss your favourite, but if we did, it will likely be added in a future update. If you’re still looking for the best PC games, can we offer you our lists of the best roguelike games or the best indie games on PC?
