Eve Online will release two expansions this year

Two more Rebellion-scale expansions for Eve Online are planned for next year, CCP Games has revealed in a new 2023 roadmap for the venerable space MMORPG. The Uprising expansion, which released late last year, brought some drastic changes to New Eden, and CCP Games said it plans to keep that pace now that they’ve moved to an online expansion model for introducing new content.

The Icelandic developer is not yet ready to discuss the details of the upcoming additions, but they are currently planned for the second and fourth quarters of the year. The first official “expansion” to Eve Online since 2018, Uprising has added a host of new Navy ships and battleships to each fleet, along with an updated faction warfare system that focuses the action on top-of-the-line dynamic systems. line.

According to CCP Games, the upcoming expansions will make a big difference on this scale.

“With this addition, we’ve reached a very exciting point,” says Burger Finnbogason, Eve’s creative director. “And yes, the next one will be even more amazing.”

However, Eve players have a lot to look forward to in the near future. During the first quarter of this year, CCP Games announced plans to introduce a new faction campaign story arc, challenging players to help their empires develop new vehicle technologies, culminating in a special event.

This quarter will also see the launch of the beta version of Eve x Excel, which was unveiled at Fanfest in Reykjavik last year. This feature will allow the Javascript API to pull data from Eve directly into an Excel workbook – the culmination of the “spreadsheets in space” joke that Eve players (and detractors) have been using for years.

In the Eve client, CCP has already implemented its updated “Photon UI” that now allows users to view multiple windows at the same time, with panels exclusively for onboard systems like drones, community developer Peter Farrell explains.

This year, CCP Games is planning a Fanfest for September 21-23, with Halloween and winter-themed events scheduled for Q4.

Developers and veteran players often say that the more players Eve has, the more fun Eve is for everyone, and Finnbogason says that the team has seen a significant increase in daily active users since the release of Uprising.

“Usually when you do extensions like that, you get a hockey stick effect: we’re really into it the first day, then it falls off, and you end up with about a 10% increase in the form of ‘a raise or a long tail.’ she tells us. “But that’s not what we see, we actually see a really healthy long tail from this launch, we still see a lot healthy days more than a month after launch.
