Apex Legends control returns in the Spellbound Collector event

Fans of the Apex Legends control mode, your time has come. The fan-favorite limited-time Checkpoint mode returns once again to battle royale as part of the Apex Legends Spellbound Collector event in January. The Apex Legends Season 16 release date is still a long way off, but this event should give players plenty to stay entertained in the meantime.

The Apex Legends Spellbound Collector event will take place from January 10 to January 24.. Respawn notes that the event includes “24 adorable limited-time cosmetic items,” including legendary skins for Vantage, Seer, Mad Maggie, and Mirage, as well as the new Seer Showstoppers heirloom. If you manage to unlock all of the other cosmetic items before the event ends, you’ll automatically receive this latest addition to the Apex Legends line of relics.

Many players, myself included, will no doubt be excited for the return of Control, one of Apex Legends’ most beloved timed modes. These 9v9 battles feature endless respawns and instead focus on capturing control points scattered across the map. It’s a great way to get more rigorous practice without all the slow setups of a standard game, and a lot of fun too.

As well as the Respawn event recently advertisement that it was running “in-region” Apex Legends matchmaking tests to try and create more balanced matches, after several months of player complaints and even instances of the lobby turning to mob justice against better players classified.

Respawn says that it “sees promising results as players are able to get more kills,” showing a graph showing that a higher percentage of players per match can get at least one kill. The team says it will “continue to monitor and blog with new ideas,” so we’ll be sure to let you know when we have more information.
