The Battlefield 2042 Season 3 update will bring some pretty big changes to vehicles across the board. One of the most important is the broader deployment of the active protection system introduced in last season’s new EBLC-RAM reconnaissance vehicle. Other changes to the vehicles in FPS games are also expected, such as adjustments to the turret rotation speed and the flight ceiling of the helicopters.
In the latest update, the developers of Battlefield 2042 explain that the active defense system with Season 3’s new main battle tank, the EMKV90-TOR, comes with a complete overhaul of how the APS system works. The redesign didn’t introduce any new mechanics or change the way the system works, but the developers say it’s now much more efficient, with less performance overhead.
This gave developers the ability to make APS available to more vehicles, something they’ve been wanting to do since EBLC-RAM was released last season. Later in Season 3, expect APS to open up for the M1A5 and T28 MBTs, which can be unlocked and equipped.
The developers also stated that they felt the turret rotation (or rotation as tankers call it) was “slow” compared to the pace of the rest of the game. In the next patch, the rotation speed of most turreted vehicles will be increased, and you can find the full list in the developer update post.
Planes have not been ignored in this update. In an upcoming Season 3 update, planes will be able to fly “under the radar” at 100 feet or less, making them immune to being caught by airborne weapons. However, they will still be vulnerable to all infantry anti-aircraft weapons.
Finally, when the update is released this season, there will be no more high-flying helicopters. EA/DICE says it is lowering the flight ceiling for helicopters so they can’t fly above lock-on range and can no longer set up camps for enemy jet pilots.
