It will be a while before we get an upgraded version of Geralt’s first RPG for PC. No release date has been set for The Witcher remake yet, but developer CD Projekt Red says it will arrive sometime after the release of the fourth Witcher game, codenamed Polaris.
The fourth Witcher game, which CD Projek Red officially announced in March, is based on Unreal Engine 5. During a recent quarterly earnings call, CEO Adam Kiczynski explained that The Witcher Remake will be developed on Unreal 5 and will be based “on a important role in Polaris Technology”, and that if the two games are to be developed together in any way, the plan now is to use the final version of Polaris in a remake of the first Witcher game.
“After the launch of Polaris, everything for Polaris will be in its final form and will be produced in part in [the] do it again,” Kicinski said.
Of course, no release date has been announced for The Witcher 4 either, so we’re left wondering when all this will actually happen: CD Projekt’s last major release, Cyberpunk 2077, faced years of delays before finally being released at the end of 2020.
