This seemingly crazy comic book crossover means a decent earthquake, at least for the Czech comic book scene. In fact, this is the first time that a world comic is published in the Czech Republic on the same day as in America and the rest of the world. This is also related to the comic book format, which is a thin notebook (24 color pages on quality paper) with one episode of a longer (six part) series. Some people might be struck by such a thin format, but experts know that almost all traditional comics in the US were first published this way. You can think of it as one of the episodes of the television series. At the same time, it is one of the few comics in the Czech Republic that have not even begun to sell “properly” yet and are already sold out. If you missed the pre-order, your only hope is to grab one of the works sent to the newsstands tomorrow. Pre-orders in online stores are hopelessly dismantled. What it is?

Worlds Collide
Since this is a brand new comic from DC production, you will be greeted with a modern adult drawing from the first page. Here, Batman meets with Commissioner Gordon to discuss the terrible anomalous storm that has engulfed Gotham. All of Batman’s tools suggest that this is an extremely powerful and dangerous phenomenon whose energy cannot be adequately measured or classified. However, the commissioner warns him that they have reports of several people running towards her, not a spreading storm. Batman deduces that such people are either crazy… or they know something about the storm. So he goes towards them. Here he meets Harley Quinn, who clearly fits into both of these groups (he is crazy, but also knows a thing or two about the storm). But negotiations with her do not go according to plan, and sooner than Batman hopes, the storm will consume them both.
Waking up, Batman finds himself in a very strange world. But fans of video games (especially one very specific video game) will immediately know where Batman is, why they are all carrying backpacks and some kind of ice pick (or perhaps a more dangerous weapon) in their hands. In the same way, you will immediately understand what the purple clouds gathering in the sky mean. But it’s interesting to see how Batman handles the new environment. It is all the more difficult that for some reason he cannot speak in this world. And worse, he lost all his memories. But he can still wash. And it will come in handy now, because the storm is getting closer and closer, causing all the strangely aggressive revelations in this world to fight among themselves in an ever smaller space. I bet Fortnite fans just jumped on the goose reading this sentence.

The fact is that in the first episode there are only 24 pages, the authors managed to build a plot and move on to a big battle, offer an unexpected reunion, and also touch at the end of the episode. I really have to applaud because when I first heard about the “crazy idea” of telling a “dark detective” story in a Fortnite battleground, I thought it was probably going to be a real payback. But this is by no means a reckoning, Batman, thanks to his internal monologue, comments on the situation at the same level as in any of his serious comics. Thus, his observations and thoughts give meaning to the whole event, and it is very funny to watch how he gradually understands what is happening here. From the very first episode, the creators set a very high bar for their story.
Great introduction
Two moments from reading the first workbook remained especially vivid in my memory. The first is one particular full-page painting that you will come across after Batman is properly engaged in a local brawl. In all its beauty and absurdity, this painting depicts the wild and colorful wilderness that Fortnite has transformed over the years with unique combinations of costumes, licenses and worlds. The second thing that really hooked me was the ending of the first notebook, which is surprisingly even more serious and mature than the dark opening in Gotham. Of course, I don’t want to spoil anyone’s surprise, but I confess that I was stunned and touched. This is a powerful scene, the tone of which further heightens the character’s inability to speak.
Bad language claims that the huge interest in this new comic book project is mainly due to the code in each book that unlocks an additional costume or item right in the Fortnite game. Personally, I don’t believe much – I’m a huge fan of Fortnite myself (more PvE “Save the World” campaigns than Battle Royale mods, but I also like to play with friends from time to time) and yet I was looking forward to a story much more than a new costume from my beloved world. The costume is a nice bonus for me. But I admit that it is nicely presented in a notebook (you have to peel off the sticker from Lama Piñata) and looks good in the game: the first issue is a Harley Quinn costume (the exact name of the costume is “Rebirth”). Harley Quinn Outfit”). You can see it in the following pictures. By the way, if you collect all six codes from all six books, you will also unlock Batman’s costume in his special “Zero Point” armor.
According to Crew, (at least not yet) there are no full release plans for all six books in the series, so if you want to be a part of this comic book event and didn’t manage to pre-order the first book in time, then it’s time to go around tomorrow’s first bookstore. And to be sure, order also the remaining numbers that are not yet sold out. But something tells me that this will change. If you are a Fortnite fan, you should definitely have this item in your collection. And if not, then perhaps discovering a ruthless world with a gathering purple storm will be as exciting for you as it was for Batman himself.
