RTX 4080 expensive gaming computer part, but it turns out that you can put together an entire AMD platform for the same price. That’s right, a complete set of components for the same price as a fancy new Nvidia GPU, and you don’t even have to stick to the entry-level specs.
As a reminder, the Nvidia RTX 4080 is priced at $1,199 / £1,249 MSRP, which arguably hurts your chances in the top graphics card race. In fact, even though it launched last week, it’s still heavily in stock, which means it’s an unpopular GPU among gaming PC enthusiasts.
In response to the stupid price of the RTX 4080, YouTuber Bitwitkyle posts a satirical test video comparing the card to a full install. The system in question features an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT processor, a Ryzen 5 5600X processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD, and the entire build costs $1,198. In other words, you can build one of the best gaming PC kits and still have a dollar worth of Arizona green tea.
Bitwitkyle’s latest video is really about pacing, as it even includes some not-so-friendly charts comparing the frame rate of a GPU to an AMD machine. Jokes aside, the creator clearly points out the price of graphics cards nowadays, because spending over $1,000 on something that relies on additional components is a bit silly.
Of course, if you want the best gaming monitor, gaming in 4K, and boosting frame rates without compromise, you’re probably planning to spend a lot more on hardware. However, I think if this is your problem, you’ve probably already picked up the RTX 4090.
It’s worth noting that the RX 6800 XT is currently available at a lower price thanks to Amazon’s excellent 23% discount. While prices for the latest generation of GPUs appear to be leveling off, there’s a good chance that this particular model will eventually sell out or return to normal pricing.
The green team’s latest GPU is haunted by its price tag, but our Nvidia RTX 4080 review shows why it’s an incredible 4K graphics card. In a way, we should probably miss this particular SKU, because if it were the same price as the upcoming Radeon RX 7900 XT, it would probably appeal to more gamers and enthusiasts.
