Project Zomboid build 42 will let you create spooky basements and sewers

One of the most surprising things about Project Zomboid is how truly intimidating it can be, despite the seemingly friendly visuals. However, the developer of The Indie Stone plans to make things a little spookier: with some changes to the survival game’s core technology, we’ll soon be faced with exploring subterranean levels, such as the Underworld, floors, and sewers. and they will be very very Dark.

Project Zomboid Build 42 is still far from complete, and “will arrive long after Build 41 is over,” the developers explain in the latest update article. This update, as we have already learned, will include some major changes to the Project Zomboid engine. In short, they include a new render pipeline that will improve performance as new environment “pieces” are introduced to the game, a new lighting system that allows light to “filter naturally through doors and windows ” to improve the atmosphere, and the removal of the existing header of eight floors: the updated engine will support up to 32 levels in each fragment.

It is important to note that these new levels may be higher Where below ground level.

Put it all together and you may have already concluded that there are basements, crawl spaces, and/or sewers in the way. You’d be right if you did, because that seems to be exactly what The Indie Stone has in mind. Look at this video:

Now, the plan is to use a system that is based on a set of basement and basement layouts created every time someone descends the stairs from ground level. Most of the time, you’ll be wandering around a simple one-room basement with loot containers and other items lying around. Bring a flashlight (sorry, Torch) with you, because thanks to this new lighting system, it will be very dark there.

However, on rare occasions, you may also find the entrance to an intricate system of underground tunnels – bunker complexes or other similar secret structures can be randomly activated. You never know, and this random system means that each game will bring new surprises.

None of this has been set in stone yet. Indie Stone says they are also considering building research sewer systems in the Louisville area. With 32 levels of vertical space to explore, the possibilities are endless.

Build 42, as we have seen, will also slightly increase the size of Project Zomboid’s map. In the future, we can expect NPCs with complex and dynamic stories when Build 43 is released.
