This exclusive gaming PC was once a home theater system.

A gaming PC doesn’t have to be a standard tower shape, as this modder demonstrates by being able to use a hollow HTPC for customization. What was once a home theater system from a bygone era of the early 2000s is now better suited for gaming.

Posting the video on YouTube, Val N’Tain, who calls himself an independent game developer, originally wanted to build the best gaming PC in a horizontal chassis instead of the typical vertical chassis. They tried and failed to make their own, but then they came across a blank Zalman HD135 home theater PC case and knew they had stumbled upon something special.

For the next 14 minutes, Val N’Tain guides us through the construction process. His first task was to make room for the Hydro PTM PRO GPU and power cables by creating custom cutouts in the Zalman HD135 case. In another section, they inserted an ASUS Blu-ray drive into an open slot and a Lamptron FC5 V3 fan controller where the IR sensor was.

There are no spec details for this custom gaming PC, but you can see there is at least one AMD Radeon graphics card. The final part of the finished product also reveals a Ryzen 7 label that suggests that it is the processor that powers everything. Another sticker on the front looks like it was built into an ASUS ROG motherboard, but we can’t say for sure.

Several Noctua fans were also installed, two of which protrude from the top of the case attached to the CPU cooler. And of course, what gaming system would be complete without modern RGB lighting? It’s nice to see millennial tech become fiction.

Learning how to build a gaming PC can be a tedious process, especially for beginners. But doing it on an older HTPC that wasn’t originally designed for gaming is something else entirely. For some older readers, this video may even resurrect those turbulent days when vertical PCs were the norm. This design is very much a holdover from the past, but there could be room for a return if the creators so choose.
