Starfield offers a survival challenge in the form of the Venus of Bethesda.

Starfield planets and Starfield locations have already been partially revealed, and over 1,000 different environments are supposed to be explored in the upcoming RPG from Fallout and Skyrim developer Bethesda. However, there is one point that fans are particularly worried about, as our own solar system, called Sol in the game, appears on the Starfield map and could cause serious problems for the Starfield game.

As we saw in the Starfield gameplay trailer, there are several considerations to keep in mind when it comes to exploring the many different planets in the game, including atmosphere and gravity. Previous hints of Starfield in-game footage have also hinted at the possibility of survival mechanisms like food and disease, but some die-hard fans doubt that a single planet, Venus, would make exploration and colonization possible.

The average temperature of our own Earth is 15 degrees Celsius. Compare that to Venus at a scorching 464 degrees Celsius, and Starfield players fear that one of the game’s suits, ships, or systems will allow us to properly explore our nearest galactic neighbor. “Since our solar (solar) system appears to be explorable,” one fan wrote, sharing temperature data, “Venus is probably one of the most dangerous planets to explore in the game. And most in that range probably won’t have as heavy an atmosphere as Venus.”

“In general, Venus is an anomaly,” adds another fan. “Most rocky bodies don’t have a very thick atmosphere, and those that do need a magnetosphere to support it if the planet is close to the sun, otherwise the atmosphere will be destroyed by the solar wind. Venus, without a magnetosphere and closer to the sun than Earth, has in some ways the densest and deadliest atmosphere of any rocky body in the solar system.”

“I think we can develop special suits to survive there,” adds a third Starfield fan, “perhaps with the help of reconstructed alien materials.” “I hope not,” reads the original Reddit poster. “I want to be allowed to melt down my spaceship and die a horrible death.”

With so much potential for exploration and variety, it’s quite possible that there are other planets in Starfield even deadlier than Venus, which raises a number of questions about the different options and tools players will be able to use to survive. Some planets may be completely inaccessible, while others may only be available for a short time due to their conditions. Alternatively, you may need to reach a certain level and get some elite gear before you can venture into some of the Starfield areas, with tougher planets populated by tougher enemies and higher rewards.

Unfortunately, until Bethesda teases Starfield’s first playable trailer, we’ll have to wait to find out more. In the meantime, find out everything we already know about Starfield’s weapons, as well as Starfield’s abilities and traits.
