The overclocked Intel Raptor Lake i9 processor is said to have broken the 8 GHz mark, the company’s first chip to do so in over a decade. While the fastest frequency bands still belong to the AMD FX-8370, the new performance record means overclocking enthusiasts can speed up the 13th Gen Blue Team even further.
According to Intel Raptor Lake benchmarks obtained by Wccftech, the next best competitor for a gaming CPU can reach over 8GHz with an overclock of 1,792V. That enthusiast also reported using liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling. to achieve this, but other details such as motherboard model and manufacturer are not disclosed.
AMD once again maintains its world record with the FX-8370 at 8.72 GHz. However, the fact that an Intel chip has appeared in the same territory for the first time in over a decade is a testament to the capabilities of AMD. Performance is one thing, but price is most likely a catch for Intel. Raptor Lake is rumored to be 15-19% more expensive than Alder Lake, which could tempt enthusiasts of building the best gaming PC to consider AMD Zen 4 chips instead.
