WoW Dragonflight is slated for Blizzard’s venerable MMORPG later this year, but it’s still in alpha testing at the moment. The recent alpha quietly added a set of new accessibility options: an interaction key, a “combat fight” and, most importantly, a wait-to-launch option. All Warcraft veterans know that the game is not user-friendly for those with RSI or other joint issues, as most classes need to maintain an uninterrupted flow of hits for optimal rotation. This new option should improve the gaming experience for all players, especially those with physical disabilities.
Often classes will have a base ability that toggles between abilities on a short cooldown, like Bloodthirst for Fury Warriors. In the past, gamers were forced to turn to third-party plugins or programs if they wanted to give their fingers a break; but finally, after years of requests, taking the cast will become an in-game option.
The premise is simple: instead of spamming a key, you just need to hold it down and the ability will cast on cooldown. Also, you can interrupt the sequence by pressing another key while holding the original key, and the new ability will cancel it. The only drawback is that it doesn’t work with macros, presumably to prevent the feature from being used to automate turns.
Other new options that are less appealing to many players are also great accessibility features. The new Interact Key allows players to automatically start interacting with the closest NPC or object by simply pressing a single key, without having to scroll or click on a target.
“Action Combat” allows you to automatically target enemies as you get closer to them, as well as dynamically switch between targets as you move the camera accordingly. Using traditional targeting methods, such as clicking or using a tab, replaces Action Combat so you don’t get stuck in every situation.
