In an exclusive interview with Bloomberg, Roblox CEO Dave Baszuki recently announced that the platform will launch Roblox immersive ads before the end of the year. However, it seems that the release of this sandbox game could come sooner than expected.

If the developers are correct, their inclusion demonstrates that the company is taking steps to begin testing and serving this ad content on the platform.
In an interview Baszucki describes the future advertising platform as “edgy” and says it’s “immersive and natural, and feels fun rather than annoying to our players.” Now is the time for the platform to include features such as Roblox missing its Q2 2022 earnings forecast, causing the stock to drop significantly. Based on the fact that using Roblox increasing among youngBaszucki also noted that immersive ad experiences tend to better monetize older users, who tend to spend more money on digital experiences.
“It’s been a vision for a long time,” Bashutsky said in an interview. Immersive advertising refers to things like billboards or pop-ups in the center of a platform. He said the company hopes these things add to the Roblox experience rather than diminish it.
Brands that spend money on Roblox-based activation do so to make the brand experience fun and exciting. This is different from other more common digital advertising methods like display advertising or retargeting advertising on social media platforms. They still play a role in the advertising ecosystem, but digital activations benefit from being less intrusive and allowing users to positively engage with brands.
Baszucki sought to allay investor concerns by noting that July was Roblox’s biggest month in terms of users and engagement, with 4.7 billion hours of interaction on the platform and 58.5 million daily active users. Promoting the appeal of the metaverse, he shared that he sees Roblox as more of a “utility that people use in their daily lives,” which differentiates it from a game or gaming platform.
He also says the company’s recent growth has been fueled by “incredible content,” “the platform’s core virality,” and “constant technical innovation,” talking about things like layered clothing and spatial audio.
Immersive advertising could dramatically change Roblox’s revenue model. Most immersive experiences exist in Roblox worlds created by development teams and are limited to companies that can afford the time and budget to invest in them, such as Gucci as good as Tommy Hilfiger. A pervasive advertising platform can make it easy for all businesses to enjoy an immersive advertising experience. Small game creators can also use immersive advertising to generate additional revenue from their own games.
Ultimately, it’s not yet clear how Roblox will handle its advertising in the experience. However, it will be interesting to see how the company decides to use new technology to create its ads.
