Project Cars delisted due to licensing issues

Slightly Mad posted a Project Cars removal announcement on Twitter, citing the expiration of existing car and track licenses as the reason for the racing game’s removal from stores. The team will also be removing Project Cars 2 for the same reason, though you’ll have some time before both games are gone from stores for good. The Project Cars removal will take place on October 3 and Project Cars 2 will be gone on September 21.

If you already own the game, there is nothing to worry about. They will be playable even after Slightly Mad removes them, and the developers promised to continue multiplayer support for both games, though they didn’t say for how long. The only difference, of course, is that you can’t buy them after the delisting date.

For fans of racing simulators, such a decision may not come as a surprise. Car and track licenses are short-lived, and for reasons generally hidden from consumers and the media, but most likely due to limited returns when licenses expire, some developers often choose not to renew them.
