The Multiversus patch, which was released this week, surprised a certain part of the fighting game community: it basically broke the modding community by ensuring that the game won’t load if mods are installed. At the moment, only the vanilla game is available until someone finds a way around the new restrictions.
According to Eurogamer, an intrepid modder named Ghost tweeted shortly after the release of the Multiversus patch, indicating that the game will no longer load if you have mods installed. We point out that currently the modding scene for Multiversus is almost dead. Ghost also continues to urge its subscribers not to send hate to developers.
It’s a shame, at least from a consumer perspective, that this happened, because custom characters appearing in the modding scene were something special. Deadpool, many Breaking Bad characters, even the Spy from Team Fortress have a downloadable model.
Multiversus will no longer load if you have mods installed. They killed modding of any kind. If we ever find a way around this, I’ll definitely write about it, but at the moment no mods will work.

It’s been a hectic few weeks for Warner Bros. in terms of business decisions, they removed massive amounts of content from their services for no apparent reason; this begins to leave them with very little goodwill in the eyes of the people who actually consume the products they make. A healthy modding scene can extend the life of a game for years; watch Skyrim for a prime example of this – the WB will be warned to ignore the wider community at their peril.
You’ll have to settle for the Vanilla Multiverse for now, but keep an eye out for any speculation of a new Multiverse character to see what happens in the future. And as always, keep an eye on the current Multiverse tier list to see who’s next.
