Every new security update for Windows 11 is designed to keep attackers out of your PC, but that doesn’t mean Microsoft’s work on behalf of protection is strong. In fact, the latest patch recently released by the company could prevent you from accessing your system if you don’t have a BitLocker key handy.

Improvements to DBX Secure Boot via Windows 11 security update “KB5012170” address vulnerabilities that allow an attacker to “bypass secure boot and download untrusted software.” I’m sure we can all agree that this is something that needs to be fixed properly.

Unfortunately, it appears that Microsoft’s changes have inadvertently put some PCs into BitLocker recovery mode after a system reboot (via PC Gamer). If you don’t have the key handy, you’ll need to find it by signing in to your Microsoft account on another device and following the company’s instructions here.

If you’ve already installed the Windows 11 update and didn’t need a BitLocker key after restarting two or more times, luckily your gaming PC was not affected by this error.
