FFXIV island reserve perhaps the biggest feature of the hugely popular MMO game in recent memory. Patch 6.2 is the next update after the Crystalline Conflict PvP mode, and while new content appears in the game quite frequently, the Island Sanctuary skin has players very excited, and for good reason.
While special raids or gear are regularly added to the game, Island Sanctuary is a bit different. This ignores the combat element of Final Fantasy XIV and instead focuses on giving players room to relax, grow, and take care of themselves a bit. What exactly does FFXIV Island Sanctuary offer in terms of gameplay and what else do we know about it so far?
FFXIV Island Sanctuary Release Date Speculation
When will the FFXIV Island Sanctuary update be released? At the time of writing, there is no confirmed release date other than the end of August, so we cannot give an exact date. However, Live Letter 72 will surely give us some details. Since this happened on August 12 and the updates will arrive 11 days after Live Letters, we’re assuming it’s August 23.
What is FFXIV Island Reserve?
We don’t have the Island Sanctuary feature on our hands yet, so most of this information came from FFXIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida during Live Letter 71, a livestream conference that took place in July.
Island Sanctuary is a new type of casual content that will work as an instance, similar to the hosting system. Players will create a customizable base of operations.
Although the area focuses on farming activities like crafting and obtaining materials, players won’t need to upgrade their Earth and Hand Disciple classes to enjoy Island Sanctuary. At the same time, it is not clear if there is a minimum level for players to access the island.
The island can act as a hub for some content and items like Eureka or Bozia that are already in the game. However, rather than being something that needs to be done in a group, this area is focused on solo content. There will most likely be quests to introduce the region, or even some kind of delivery system where you can earn rewards by completing quests. It also looks like Island Sanctuary will be quite large based on the image shown during the aforementioned live card, though that’s an assumption on our part based on the amount of pixelated imagery to hide things.
What to do on your reserve island
Think of Island Sanctuary as your very own FFXIV farming simulator. Players will be able to grow plants and seeds found on the island and collect creatures from the area. Also, to populate the base, pets owned by players can freely run around the territory. They can be obtained through quests, events, dungeons, or purchases.
Yoshi-P also shared that some materials can be collected here, but it’s unclear if players will be able to use them outside of the island. On the other hand, crafting will be used to craft tools to help collect these materials and craft items that will be sold for the island’s special currency. It’s unclear what can be purchased with it, but it was confirmed during Live Mail that the island’s currency can be exchanged for special items.
