Unity Boss: Developers who don’t put money first are ‘the biggest fools’

Unity CEO and former Electronic Arts executive John Rizzitiello angered commentators on Thursday after he criticized mobile game developers for not prioritizing monetization in their creative processes.

Ricciello continued, “In the past, developers distributed their games to publishers and sellers without interacting with them first. This model is embedded in the philosophies of many art forms and media, and this is one of them. I have a lot of respect, I know their dedication and their care.

“But this industry divides people between those who still buy into that ethos and those who are trying to figure out what constitutes a massive hit product. I don’t know of any successful artist who doesn’t care what their players think.”

Rizzitiello’s comments immediately sparked outrage in the games industry, especially mobile game developers.
