Unity must be associated with the company source of iron. Acquisition of all shares of the monetization platform will cost Unity nearly $4.5 billion. However, the news about the trade stirred up emotions and caused discontent, especially from the developers. Behind the controversy lies the past of IronSource and the subsequent words of the head of Unity when he named some of the developers “fucking idiots”.

source of iron is an Israeli monetization platform that has been operating since 2010. She became the center of attention in 2015 when she placed a fake Google Chrome ad in the Bing web browser environment. Clicking on a supposed ad resulted in a software download InstallCore, which subsequently showed unwanted ads to users. InstallCore was used until 2020 and was a key product for IronSource.

unity CEO John Richitello answered questions from PocketGamer magazine. In an interview, he commented that the developers do not plan a monetization system early in the development process. He compared them to Ferrari and other car companies, which even today use outdated tools. “These are the people I like to fight the most,” he said, continuing, “they are the most beautiful, clean and wonderful people. They are also one of the largest fucking idiotsEven the context of Riccitello’s words did not soften the developer. The already extensive criticism was only reinforced by the statement of the head of the company.

Wayfarer Games Director Shares His Vision for Game Developer Magazine House of Harris: “Our vision and Unity’s vision of their target audience is very different. Unity does not make money from people using the free version and version PLuce as well as Pyear they are incredibly cheap for what they offer. Their main source of income is advertising… so from that perspective, the merger makes sense.” According to him, the decision to merge the companies is “stupid”.

The news of the Unity-IronSource merger came shortly after Unity started laying off employees. This concerned 4% of all employees. More than half of the employees have returned to the company, Riccitello said.

Unity also commented on the whole case. It notes that IronSource no longer offers or develops any desktop software and is focused on monetizing mobile devices. “Like any major desktop advertising platform (…) [i IronSource] at times he suffered from people who tried to abuse the platform.” The spokeswoman expressed her full support to users and called Riccitelli’s words taken out of context.
