Project Cambria could cost three Oculus Quest 2 headsets

The Oculus Quest 2 might be the best VR headset you can buy in Meta today, but Project Cambria could change all that when it launches later this year… if you can stomach its potentially high price tag. Although the company has yet to provide an official MSRP for its upcoming device, new reports suggest that it could cost as much as a mid-range gaming PC.

According to insiders, Project Cambria will set you back more than $1,000, making it more expensive than buying three Oculus Quest 2 headsets and many competing devices like Valve Index (via Bloomberg). Meta is looking to take a lead in the VR market with its next headset with more powerful specs than its consumer counterpart, so it’s only natural that it costs more.

With the Meta being “laser-focused” on securing Project Cambria’s release later this year, we probably won’t have to wait long for more information on the headset. That is, of course, if the company doesn’t want to repeat itself showing off its VR device without showing it.

Whether Project Cambria will be enough to carve out a foothold in the high-end VR market remains to be seen, but the arrival of Apple’s VR headset could threaten the behemoth’s dominance of the metaverse.
