The Intel Arc Desktop GPU is claimed to be 25% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6400, but new tests say otherwise. Although the Arc A380 has higher specs for a lower price, it probably can’t completely shake off the red card of entry-level equipment.

According to 3DCenter benchmarks, intelligence ark The A380 is only 4% faster than the Radeon RX 6400. The performance increase figures increased to 21% with price in the equation, both figures below the promotional claims of the team in blue.

Of course, other driver optimizations could help improve the A380’s capabilities, but 3DCentre has already revised its performance projections for the Arc Alchemist line. The site now predicts that the flagship A780 will be “slightly worse than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti”, while mid-range cards may struggle with the RTX 3050.

Intel’s efforts to compete in the best graphics card race got off to a rocky start, with its Arc-GPU gaming laptops still listed as “coming soon” at retailers like Best Buy. The Arc A380 GPU in question is not yet available for purchase outside of China, with the full lineup not expected to arrive until August.

If all goes well with Arc Alchemist, Intel says it could release a new graphics card every year until 2025. However, the company seems to be struggling to create a graphics solution that can truly outperform current-gen competitors. With the imminent launch of the next generation of Nvidia RTX 4000 GPUs and AMD RDNA 3, the chances of Intel stealing the graphics card crown are incredibly slim.
