President Jair Bolsonaro announced this Thursday (16) a reduction in the industrial goods tax (IPI) for the import of video games with built-in screens (portable or not) and a reduction in the tax rate on the import of parts and accessories for console and arcade machines 16% per 12%. The measure comes into force on July 1.
– From July 1, the rate of 12% will be reduced instead of the current 16% on the import of spare parts and accessories for consoles and gaming machines.
– For video games with built-in screens (portable or not) and their parts, the reduction is from 16% to 0%.

It is worth noting that this is the fourth IPI reduction promoted by the current government. In 2019, at the start of Bolsonaro’s term, the rates were 50% for game consoles and machines, 40% for game console and machine parts and accessories, and 20% for video games with built-in screens.
In the latest decree in August 2021, Bolsonaro has already lowered the IPI on consoles from 30% to 20%, on accessories from 22% to 12%, and on video games with built-in screens from 6% to 0%. However, in May the decree was cancelled.
So far, the Ministry of Economy has not said how much this change will affect revenues, but the government estimates that it will fail to raise around BRL 83 million in 2021, with exceptions made this year.
