When you think of Minecraft tournaments, you probably think of random building competitions, or maybe a fun server battle that has nothing but your honor on it. YouTuber MrBeast recently held a $30,000 Minecraft tournament that brought together 1,000 Minecraft players on a single server in a sandbox game in groups led by famous Minecraft YouTubers and challenged them to build a thriving civilization in their biomes.
Naturally, this led to a massive war and the destruction of the server civilization, but it was all part of the plan. After 24 hours of frantic server building, Mister Beast had each group battle it out to see which survival skills were the strongest. The group that managed to defeat the other six was declared the winner and received the prize money.
Until now, however, the abilities could only help the competitors, as Mr. Beast made sure that no one had the full advantage. One group had to make the most of the harsh conditions and limited resources of the Badlands, while the other was trapped in the middle of the ocean and built a massive fortress to defend against attacks from all directions.
The most resourceful group spent their time excavating and building a fortified castle with all the trimmings: thick walls, a deadly moat, construction sites.
As always in Minecraft, the best laid plans have gone awry. Once the battle began, there wasn’t much, other than perhaps the massive castle walls, that could hold off the invading hordes, not just other players’ mobs.
Slugs and other Minecraft enemies have disrupted battle strategies and turned dreams of glory into burning ruins.
It’s a strong argument for a Minecraft fighting game, and while there’s no sign of Mojang developing anything in that direction, we could see a Minecraft strategy game appear in the near future.
In the meantime, a lot awaits us in the Wild update and, in some cases, on the sly. It is terrifying in nature.
