Hello Games has announced its new No Man’s Sky Leviathan Expedition, which turns the space game into a roguelike and adds, as the name suggests, giant space whales. The expansion is free and draws travelers into a time loop with separate story content distributed through Memory Fragments. Survival game players can also recruit Titled Leviathans as a natural addition to their frigate fleet.
The Leviathan Expedition begins today (May 25) and will last approximately six weeks. Players embarking on an adventure are placed in a time loop with the Survival Mode difficulty setting applied. As expected from the roguelike’s description, death would mean restarting the cycle. Players can also explore this mode cooperatively by launching a public expedition.
At the end of the adventure, the progress turns into a Survival mode save and all rewards from the stage can be used in your save games using the Space Anomaly Mercury Fusion satellite. Hello Games founder Sean Murray said there are a lot of new No Man’s Sky updates in the works, so this probably won’t be the last expansion we see. The recent update to No Man’s Sky Outlaws, for example, allows players to live out their space pirate fantasies with contraband and other questionable possibilities.
