Minecraft can be used for just about anything, and you’ll find out if you read our articles about it every day. We have multiplayer Tetris running, cities in transformation, and even a supermassive black hole. Well, this fan made a cow in the Minecraft GIF game, which turns out to be much more difficult than you think.
Check out the Reddit video below to see just how awesome this Minecraft Cow G is. Dongxipunata, the creator of this effect, explains it all to you in one post. He uses the same principle as moiré slit animation, which is a way of animating something using an optical illusion that you can create by overlaying different lines. Essentially the lines cover different parts of the image and this is combined with specially designed images to create movement. The image doesn’t actually move, but your brain thinks it does so it hides and shows in the image.
They also explain that “changing the resolution, angle or FOV, even with something like the speed potion, breaks the effect and you have to find a new place for the harmonic sample.” Basically, it’s a very specific optical illusion that’s based not only on how they created things, but also the setting, the angle, and the distance.
You can see how surgically precise it must be when Dongxipunata begins to move forward and everything unfolds in what looks like a visual glitch. It all ends up looking ugly, damaged, or worse, 3D magic eye paintings, as they get closer to the cow, but that doesn’t take away from the impressive effect.
