Fortnite will return to iOS devices thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Epic Games has long challenged both Apples over its stance on App Store fees. This is why playing Fortnite on mobile devices, especially iPhones, was very difficult. However, thanks to the partnership with Microsoft, Fortnite will continue to be available on iOS and Android devices.
Fortnite joins Xbox Cloud Gaming as the first free game. All players must use a Microsoft account and an internet connection. Players will be able to access the game through their device’s web browser, where they can use a touchscreen or gamepad.
Tim Swin, co-founder and CEO of Epic Games, seemed particularly pleased with the deal, tweeting: “Monumental news for everyone! Fortnite is now free to stream in web browsers on iPhone, iPad and Android via the Xbox Cloud.” No subscription. There is no 30% tax at Apple.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is currently in beta and is currently only available in 26 countries. “We’re starting with Fortnite and trying to deliver more free games in the future that people will love,” the Xbox post reads. “We want to bring games to 3 billion gamers worldwide, and the cloud plays a key role in that mission.
This will undoubtedly be good news for mobile fans who will lose access to the game after a while.
