Merrill said on Twitter Thursday that Riot Games co-founder and former CEO Mark Merrill has been named the new head of Studio Games.
In her new role, Meryl will control all Riot games at the admin level, including League of Legends, Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra. He will also oversee the Riot games he is currently working on, from the fighting game named Project L to the eponymous MMO listed in League of Legends’ Runeterra, and other unknown titles that Riot is making.
It will take a few weeks to meet the teams and make plans, but we’ll be back soon with more information on what to expect from Riot GAMES(™). Until then, we’ll meet everyone in the rift!

In addition to co-founding Riot Games, Meryl served as the company’s CEO until 2017, when she and co-founder Brandon Beck became co-directors. He left the role the same year, but continued to work on projects within the company, including the League of Legends 10th anniversary event, which Riot Games debuted on Valorant. He also starred in production for Riot’s entertainment division and produced the Netflix series “Arcane” based on League of Legends.
“After years of developing Riot talent and teams, I’m thrilled to be fully focused on Riot games,” Meryl said on Twitter. He said he was “looking forward” to joining the studio’s many developers working on “super secret projects”.
