Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has said that Fortnite will not be supported on Valve’s upcoming Steam Deck.

To the surprise of as many fans as possible, it looks like Fortnite won’t be available on Valve’s Steam Deck without at least skipping a few ringtones. Yesterday the CEO was asked on Twitter: “Are there any plans to upgrade Fortnite to make Proton/Wine compatible with EAC and anti-chat BattlEye on Linux?”

Swine replied, “No, but great efforts are being made to maximize Easy Anti Cheat’s compatibility with the Steam Deck.”

Naturally, fans wondered why and why they didn’t accept the Fortnite update to make it compatible. Against this backdrop, Sweeney stressed that fraud issues were central to the decision. “We’re not sure we can fight fraud with a wide variety of kernel configurations, including custom configurations,” he replied.

Others have suggested this means Sweeney doesn’t actually trust his own product. he has answered“When it comes to anti-cheat on the Linux platform, which supports custom kernels and a threat model for a game the size of Fortnite, yes, that’s absolutely true!”

Given Sweeney’s concerns Fortnite has made its way to just about every amazing platform, it’s no surprise it’s not making its way to the Steam Deck. This does not mean that fans will not completely lock down the system to play the game, but rather they should install Windows instead of using the default settings.

Just one game of Fortnite is pretty much a hindrance.
