The source released a report stating that the next Escape From Tarkov-inspired “DMZ” mode will launch free-to-play in 2023.
The upcoming ‘DMZ’ mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has not been officially confirmed by Activision, but many rumors have been circulating about its development for a while. The mod is said to be heavily inspired by Escape From Tarkov, a challenging survival multiplayer game with a hard continuous death feature. Activision previously announced that a third mode is in development alongside MW2 and Warzone, and it’s unlike any Call of Duty.
A new report has come in from @RalphsValve via WhatIfGaming saying that “the mod has been around for about four years and has gone through a number of changes over the years”.
“At launch, players will see the traditional version of Call of Duty featuring 3 modes: single-player, multiplayer and an all-new co-op experience; followed by Warzone 2.0, which is slated for release in December this year,” says the revealer.
Modern Warfare 2: The “Tarkov Inspired” mode, now called “Project Nexus” and will be free-to-play in 2023.

Ralph said the DMZ mode is expected to launch in Q3 2023, provided Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 meet expectations.
The report also states that the gossip mode will be open-world and will have its own complex storyline tied to Modern Warfare 2’s main campaign.
Since Activision has yet to officially confirm the existence of the mod, specific details about the DMZ mod are scarce. The closer we get to the release of Modern Warfare 2, the more information we will have.
