Even after more than fifteen years since its inception Mining craft never ceases to amaze. According to official data published on the Guinness Book of Records website, the game from the Mojang studio has reached an incredible sales milestone. It was supposed to be sold all over the world. 350 million copies.
As recently as October 2023, Minecraft sold 300 million units, and even then it was the best-selling video game of all time. Now, a year and a half later, the numbers continue to rise. By comparison, it has sold “only” 238 million copies as of April 2021.
Minecraft started in 2009 as experimental alpha version free. The official release of version 1.0 took place only in November 2011. Since then, the simple sandbox game has become a global phenomenon, shaping an entire generation of players and creators.
The game gradually appeared on all major platforms. – from computers and mobile devices through PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles to new generations. It was last released on PlayStation 5 in October 2024 and Xbox Series X/S in June 2025, ensuring Minecraft remains relevant to today’s players.
The Guinness World Record reminds us that Minecraft was the first video game to surpass 300 million copies sold, and now it is clearly cementing its position as the most successful game in history. In second place without a threat to the throne Grand Theft Auto V (215 million units sold), and the third – Wii Sports (82.9 million units).
The premiere took place in April this year Minecraft movie. The second part will be released in theaters in the summer of 2027.
