YouTube tightens rules on graphic violence in games – INDIA

YouTube is set to crack down again on how creators present videos with adult or violent content. New rules will come into force on November 17, restricting access to videos containing realistic violence, gore or gambling. This will impact video game content creators.

YouTube’s content verification system will judge the video more harshlywhich depict scenes of brutal violence or torture of realistic-looking characters. Particular attention should be paid to attacks on civilians, which suggests that today legendary mission “No Russians” from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with the shooting of civilians at the airport or torture scene from Grand Theft Auto V probably won’t work.

Authors whose videos the system marks as “adults only.” they have to rely on less advertising revenue. YouTube recommends avoiding filters or self-censorship, such as blurring or cutting out problematic videos.

According to YouTube spokesman Bull Bullwinkle, the changes reflect an attempt to adapt to the evolution of the digital space: “Our policies are changing with the world of online media. The new measures demonstrate our commitment to protecting young audiences and maintaining a responsible YouTube platform.”

Besides YouTube now prohibits showing gambling elements to young viewers – especially bets and sweepstakes with digital items such as in-game skins or NFTs.

Changes will be retroactive. This means that the algorithms will also check older videos published before November 17, 2025. You can read more about the new rules here.
